Three OTT subscribers cheated of practically Rs 5 lakh by cyber fraudsters
Three subscribers of OTT (over-the-top) streaming platform Netflix have been allegedly cheated of practically Rs 5 lakh within the final two months by cyber fraudsters who despatched them phishing hyperlinks asking them to resume their subscription.
The newest sufferer is a 45-year-old girl from Worli who lodged an FIR with the Worli police station on January 11. She stated that she acquired an e mail asking her to replace her subscription by making a fee. She clicked on a hyperlink given to make the fee and shared her bank card particulars after which two one time passwords (OTPs) had been acquired on her telephone. She shared these OTPs with the fraudster after which Rs 2.50 lakh acquired debited from her account. She known as the financial institution instantly to dam her card and approached the police the identical day.
A 46-year-old girl lodged an FIR with the Cuffe Parade police station on December 20 in an identical case. She allegedly misplaced Rs 1.25 lakh after falling for a phishing hyperlink asking her to resume Netflix subscription. Another sufferer is a 66-year-old girl from Altamount Road in south Mumbai who misplaced Rs 1.16 lakh on December 16 and registered an FIR on the Gamdevi police station. The Greater India
