Top OTT raises price for Dolby Atmos 4K

Amazon’s basic Prime Video package no longer includes Dolby Vision HDR or Dolby Atmos surround sound, according to reports. Last month, they added ads to this tier, and now higher-quality content is no longer available with it.

Smart TVs from Sony, LG, and Samsung are now showing content in HDR10 with Dolby Digital 5.1 instead of the previously supported options. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are only available on the ad-free option for relevant titles.

Streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney, and Amazon Prime are increasing prices and making changes to boost revenue and subscribers.

In India, Amazon offers two subscription plans: Prime and Prime Lite. The Prime tier, priced at Rs 299 per month (Rs 1,499 per year), offers 4K content with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support (without ads), while the Lite plan provides HD content (720p) at Rs 799 per year.

Users opting for the Lite plan may see ads and miss out on Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. However, the Lite tier is only available in India.

In other countries, there’s only the Basic plan, which is reportedly being removed, possibly to encourage users to pay more for streaming benefits. The platform may adjust pricing or take another approach in India in response to these changes. M9.News
