TRAI Asks Service Providers to Remove Analog RIOs from Websites

The central Government notified March 31, 2017 as the last date of an implementation of Phase-IV of the Digital Addressable Cable TV Systems (DAS), therefore w.e.f. April 1, 2017 only digital encrypted signals can be carried on the Cable TV network in the country. Carriage of analog signals and/or unencrypted signals after March 31, 2017 is a violation of Section 4A of the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act 1995.

TRAI has observed that some broadcasters references interconnect offers (RIOs) for analog platforms are getting displayed on their website. TRAI has written individual letters to broadcasters whose analog RIOs are found on websites. All the broadcasters are advised to ensure that no RIOs for analog platforms are either executed or displayed on their websites and no offers are made, directly or indirectly, for making their signals of TV channels available on analog cable television networks. Further, all the multisystem operators and cable operators are advised to ensure no unencrypted signals are carried on their cable television network.
