TRAI Initiates Pilot Project to Test Interoperable STBs
In order to test interoperable set-top boxes (STBs) for the digital TV broadcasting services, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has commenced a project. It will allow subscribers to use the same STB for various service providers. There are 15 entities that have come for the pilot. Architecture is in place; the prototype design is ready. The Authority will come out with test results within 8–10 weeks. If the project is successful, customers will no longer have to buy a new STB every time they change their cable service provider as the same STB can be used to receive signals from new operator.
