Udupi DC warns of action if unwanted news content broadcast on cable TV network
Deputy Commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari warned of legal action against such cable TV operators which broadcast fake and unwanted news on their local cable TV network channels.
Presiding over a meeting of the district-level cable television management committee held at the DC’s office hall of Manipal Rajatadri in the city on Tuesday, December 19, she said, “No programmes broadcast on cable TV network shall be allowed which may disturb the peace of the society, cause enmity, cause pain among any community. Also, advertisements that are not in accordance with the code or which without any basis promote feelings of enmity or enmity between different religions, race, languages or regional groups or castes cannot be broadcast.”
“The customers of the cable operators shall be charged the prescribed rate. The operators should provide good quality network signals. If there are complaints against them, the cable operators will be held responsible and action will be taken,” she said.
The deputy commissioner said, “Cable television network programming rules and regulations must be followed strictly. Once rules are violated, action will be taken as per law.”
Secretary of the committee and district spokesperson Manjunath B said that attention has been given to local TV programmes. He said that cable TV operators should act with restraint and provide quality services to their customers.
A district-level complaint cell has been opened in the office of Information and Public Relations Department, Nairkere, Brahmagiri, Udupi for the benefit of the public to file any kind of complaints or grievances regarding the Cable TV network.
Additional district commissioner Mamata Devi G S, Sadhana Kini of Power Corporation, educationist Ramakrishna Rao, president of Vishwas House Mathew Castellane and others were present in the meeting. DaijiWorld
