Venkaiah Naidu Assumes Charge as Minister of Information and Broadcasting

Venkaiah Naidu asserts that the government’s mission would be to enable public communication for the development of the country and the community. He stated this after assuming charge as Minister for Information and Broadcasting.

Arun Jaitley, Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Rajyavardhan Rathore, MoS (I&B), Ajay Mittal, Secretary (I&B), and senior officers of the ministry were also present on the occasion.

Talking to the media later, Naidu stated that he would be guided by the principle of communication for development of the community and the country. This was based on the basic principles of reform, perform, transform, and inform. The government was a reservoir of information relating to various aspects of a common man’s life.

In this context, it was important to ensure proper flow of such information for broadening common understands of key policy initiatives of the government. This would facilitate the task of information empowerment, thereby creating an enabling environment for key stakeholders.

Elaborating further, the minister said that it was important to position various media units as credible brands for effectively serving the information needs of the people. He referred to the process of change ushered in by the Prime Minister, which touched upon the attitudes of key stakeholders thereby reorienting the government’s approach and understanding toward the concept of development. In order to achieve this goal, it was important to mainstream effective communication as an input to realize this change. Communication processes were critical for empowering people with information that would enable them to fulfil their aspirations.

Naidu also thanked outgoing minister, Arun Jaitley, for his unrelenting efforts in taking forward the mandate of the Ministry of I&B.
