YouTube TV is now the 4th largest Cable TV company jumping DISH
Last week, Neal Mohan, YouTube’s Chief Executive Officer, released his 2024 priorities for the service. In that letter, he also announced that YouTube TV has 8 million subscribers, making it the largest live TV streaming service. YouTube TV is now the fourth largest cable TV company in the United States.
“We’re also seeing growing consumer interest in our subscription services. We’re excited to announce that we have more than 8 million subscribers to YouTube TV. And we passed 100 million Music and Premium subscribers, including trials. Music subscriptions help us deliver on our goal to be the best place for artists to connect with fans, from insider access to Coachella to Shorts challenges with NewJeans, Dua Lipa, Tate McRae, and more.”
YouTube TV’s 8 million subscribers put it behind Spectrum as the largest followed by Comcast, DIRECTV, and now YouTube TV. DISH reportedly has over 6.7 million TV subscribers according to its third quarter 2023 report but has yet to report its fourth quarter 2023 numbers.
With this jump, YouTube TV has nearly doubled the subscribers of Hulu + Live TV with 4.6 million, the next largest TV service. This news comes as YouTube TV successfully used its NFL Sunday Ticket exclusivity to drive up subscriber numbers.
Other large live TV streaming services include Sling TV with 2.1 million and Fubo with more than 1.4 million subscribers.
The question now is can YouTube TV keep these subscribers as the NFL season comes to an end. Increasingly, cord cutters have rotated services to save money. Will the upcoming March Madness help keep subscribers or will they jump ship to save money by dumping YouTube TV until the start of the 2024 NFL season?
We will have to wait and see if YouTube TV can continue to be one of the few live TV services adding subscribers in 2024. Cord Cutter News
