Ziggo Could Stop Analogue FM Radio Within The Year

Analogue FM radio may disappear from cable at Vodafone Ziggo within a year, though no date has yet been fixed, reports Total TV. The disconnection is part of the network’s renewal.

Vodafone Ziggo is preparing its cable network for the introduction of services via Docsis3.1, with much higher internet speeds for end users. The company is already working to switch analogue TV channels off by region. The released capacity will be used for the upload of internet traffic, in frequencies that are separate from the download streams.

Analogue FM radio has however been given its own schedule. At the request of Ziggo, the Media Authority has made a distinction between the radio and TV services. This exemption was valid from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2020. The expectation is that Ziggo will switch off analogue radio within those three years. — Telecompaper
